Backflow Testing Perth
Our Backflow services include the annual backflow testing of Backflow prevention devices.
What is backflow?
Backflow is a reversal of the normal direction of water flow in a water supply plumbing system. It occurs when the water delivery main is at a lower pressure than the internal plumbing system (back siphonage). In situations when there is a burst or ruptured water main, or periods of excessive and high demand, such as during fire-fighting operations, back siphonage can occur.
Backflow can also occur when contaminated water sources are crossed with the potable water supply. For this reason appliances and services such as dishwashers, bidet sprays and bores, should all have backflow prevention devices installed.
If a property’s drinking water supply is inadvertently connected with a source of pollution, either through a cross connection or simply a hose submerged in a container of liquid, then these pollutants could enter the water supply and pose a very serious health risk.
Why install a backflow prevention device?
Contaminated water can cause health problems or death, therefore obligations to install a backflow prevention device are legislated. The Water corporation is responsible for administering the regulations. They also assess back flow requirements for properties and fire services.
Penalties such as fines and disconnection of services can be imposed for non compliant properties.
